I moved around for awhile. Worked for SWB in Tulsa, OK, for a little while (wasn't very smart back then), ended up in west Texas. Worked there for awhile and eventually moved to Oklahoma City where I ended up working for St. Paul Ins. Co. for eleven years. Got married at the age of 29, had my first child, then divorced. Stayed in OKC for 11 years, then moved to Tulsa. Worked for Marsh & McLennan Ins. Brokers, got married again when I was 39 and when I was 45 I had my twins, Taylor and Tyler (or now called Ty). They are now 12 and we're doing pre Algebra and it's rough on this 57 year old......... but I love having then, they are a joy for me. Taylor, my daughter, and I love to shop together.
I am now working as a library assistant at my children' school which has been fun. My husband works for American Airlines. We don't travel much like most people think AA employees do, but my twins did get to go to Europe this past summer with their grandparents (I wasn't invited..)
My daughter lives in Oklahoma City with her husband and children. I have two twelve year olds still in school and now my grand children are beginning school. And that is where my life is at the moment.

I think I actually remember Coach Bishop giving those test directions! Recently, due to the undeniable fact that we are having our 40th high school reunion, I have been (1)trying to figure out where all the time went and (2)having lots of flashbacks to interesting, horrifying, fun, and/or bizzare high school happenings.
Otherwise, my immediate family and I happily live in Denton, TX. I LIVE in Texas, but I remain an Arkansan. Marrying late, Mike and I have two (really nice) kids in university: Hannah (18) is a freshman at Ouachita Baptist Univ., and Grant (19) is a sophomore at Texas Lutheran Univ.
Since leaving Mtn. Home 40 years ago, among other places, I have lived nearly a decade in Canada, a few months in China, a year in England, eleven years in Little Rock, and now fifteen years in Texas--all the while involved in education. I got my degrees in English literature but have been a bureaucrat, not a teacher as I expected, most of my life.
Thanks to the committee for organizing this reunion. It will be a delight to visit with friends from "home" and catch up on people's lives.

I attended the University of Arkansas for two years after graduation from high school. Returned to live in Mtn. Home and care for my ill parent, married Harold Terry in 1967, to this marriage 3 children were born. We divorced in 1981. Both my parents died that year, as well.
In 1977, I started my career in law enforcement. I graduated from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy in Camden and was one of the first women in law enforcement in Baxter County. I was the Juvenile Probation and Intake Officer until 1988 when I left to return to college at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I received two degrees in Alabama, my last was a Master of Social Work degree in 1993.
I am now in private practice as a clinical social worker/therapist in Tuscaloosa. My concentration is in geriatric social work. Most of my clients are elderly individuals. In my career as a public servant my best work was left to the citizens of Baxter County as co-founder (along with Policeman Jim Matthews) of Serenity, a shelter for abused women and children. In Tuscaloosa, I founded a program called People Fighting Hunger a meals program for homeless and needy individuals.
I travel with Alabama's oldest midwife, a 99-year-old woman who is an author and a speaker in demand all over the place. I will be in Portland, Oregon, with her on the reunion weekend but I promise I will attend the next one.
It is so exciting to connect with all of you, again. My best wishes to you! Have FUN! (That is all I know about the chapter, Coach Bishop!!! I LOVED HIM!!! HE was to die for!!) Darlene

I feel fortunate to have been able to remain in the area for all these years. It takes us a long time to realize things, but Mtn. Home is the greatest place to live.

Greetings from Maine. Eddie and I are excited about attending the reunion.WOW,40 years!
As some of you know I'm a self employed Nurse/Manager. Currently on a high profile case of two children with a rare terminally ill disease called Pompes. I've been flying back and forth from Boston or Philly to drive into Princeton, New Jersey, to their home for the past six plus years. We have been featured on the Today Show, CNN, and MSNBC. A final draft of a book just went to the editor, and a movie is in the works. The children Megan and Patrick are now in a bi-monthly Enzyme replacement trail with the FDA and Genzyme Pharmaceutical company.
We on the other hand have been blessed with two beautiful and healthy daughters and five of the best grandchildren anyone could ever hope for, our son-in-law Randy, and of course my mother Jerry Howard (Uma) whom a lot of you know and love, too. We are all here now.
We live near the seacoast barely in Maine. Everyone works in New Hampshire. The guys are in Wal-mart management and the girls are teachers. When you view the pictures you might recognize our two daughters whom are Mtn. Home grads, too. Christy ‘86 and Misty ‘89. Our grandchildren range from 7 to 14. And of course their Great-grandmother Uma. She sends her love to all and hugs and kisses to Dick House.
And last but not least the very short blonde round person is me. And I am busting to see you all in October. Sharon Howard

Jeff and I were fortunate to teach at a wonderful public alternative high school, a ""school of choice"" (meaning: kids want to go there!) which featured international travel as an essential and integral part of the curriculum! That meant we got to dream, and design study for trips all over the world - to see the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba, for example- and take kids there on the cheap! So it was an adventure for thirty years for both of us, and because our two kids went to the school, we got to take them along as well. We've done archaeolgy in the desert Southwest, traveled to Mexico many times, Guatemala to see the Mayan ruins at Tikal, Costa Rica twice, lots of wilderness backpacking, Boundary Waters canoeing--an adventurous and fun place to teach and learn. We could always make the experiences multi-disciplinary...science and art can be a part of anything! Our long careers there and our capacity as academic and personal advisors to the kids has made us part of a huge extended "family," a community that is unusual; we hear from former students all the time and are still much a part of their lives-very rewarding.
Jeff and I took around a hundred trips in our career at the school ( Jefferson County Open School), and our passion for travel - from Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Lyle's tales, no doubt - takes us on our own trips as well. We look forward to traveling more in our retirement, and in my case, making my own art-ceramics, drawing/painting.
The kids go to school currently in Colorado; Lucas is a senior at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and Lauren is a sophomore at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
Over the past 20+ years we have pretty much handbuilt our home in the foothills west of Denver - lots of additions from the original cabin built in the 1940's - and we'd love to have any of you come to visit! We're not far from a buffalo herd - so bring your skates!
The reunion was wonderful; you guys are great
people, as you always were! You even improve with age!

Helen Kendall 12891 Highway 201 N Clarkridge, AR 72653 I’ve been real busy with my husband; his health isn’t good right now.
I graduated 1964, got married Oct. 26, 1965, and moved to Hot Springs where I worked at A&W until my husband got on the Police Department in Malvern, AR. I worked as a waitress until I got on at Curtis Mathes. When it moved I worked at the shoe factory. From there I became an assistant manager at the Sonic in Malvern.
Had to leave the Sonic and help my dad take care of my mother. We lost her August 16, 1985. Then we owned our own bait shop and canoe rental, and I managed the roller rink.
When my husband retired, we moved back to Clarkridge to help my dad when he needed it, but I got bad and he had to help take care of me. I had to have a kidney transplant in 1993. Then my dad got worse and we took care of him. He died Aug. 16, 1995, exactly 10 years from when my mother died.
In 2000 I had to have a knee replaced, and in 2001 I was going to have my other knee replaced when we found out that I had cancer.
I have a craft show, which I do every year that I can. O dp a ;pt pf crpcjetomg/
In 2002 my husband had a 4-way bypass, then three days after he came home he had a bad stroke. I take care of him and try to do other things that I need to do. I have arthritis in my neck and back.
We had a daughter July 2, 1970. I also have a step-daughter that is about 6 years younger than I. I have one grandson, 2 step-grandsons, 3 step-granddaughters, 2 step-great-granddaughters and 2 great grandsons, but I love them all the same.

My journey began on August 4, 1983, when I entered into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ my Lord. It’s my relationship with Him that defines who I am and gives, not only this life, but all eternity, meaning and purpose.
I am blessed with a good marriage. The love of my life, my husband, Wilbur (Zelk–class of ‘61) and I will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary on November 1. Wilbur retired from the U.S. Navy in October 1980. After living on both coasts and seeing most of the country in-between, we decided there was nowhere better to live than Mountain Home, Arkansas. We moved back here and built the house we still live in.
But the Navy wanderlust is still there also, and we both love to travel. We’ve lived in Saudi Arabia and visited many other countries. Our two favorites are Israel and Australia. Alaska and Ireland are still on our list of places to see. When Wilbur retires from his civilian job at Baxter Healthcare, we plan on becoming “winter Texans.”
I’m looking forward to the next chapter....

Holly has come back to Springfield where she is a doctor at Cox Family Medicine in her first year residence in Family Practice. It is great having at least one daughter close after all the years of college. Amanda is still so far away...Colorado State University.
I plan to stay busy with volunteer work, traveling, and hobbies. I am trying to put all the years of teaching geometric designs to good use by learning chip carving. I am really enjoying the challenge. See you soon.

Spouse: Max Cotter Occupation: Retired Years Married: 36 Children: Lyn Cotter 35, Sheri Smith 32 Grandchildren: Wesley Smith 12, Hannah Cotter 10, Bodie Cotter 7
I have retired from Baxter Healthcare after 39 years of employment. Since I'm not a stay at home person, I work part time in the Mountain Home School System. Max and I have a farm and raise beef cattle.
During the summer we enjoy watching the grandchildren play ball.
Our son works as a Farm Bureau insurance agency and his wife is an assistant principal at the Pinkston Middle School in Mountain Home. Our daughter attends ASU full time and works full time at the Mountain Home High School. Her husband works with telecommunication.
I haven't really changed much over the years. I'm not as shy as I was in school. Some of you might remember that I was the 1964 Baxter County Dairy Princess. Well, my daughter was Homecoming queen in 1989 and last year my granddaughter was Young Miss Merry Christmas in Baxter County.
I look forward to seeing my classmates.

My family moved from Mtn. Home after our 6th grade to Hesston, Kansas. We lived there for 1 year (7th grade) then moved to Filer, Idaho, for the 8th grade. My father was a Pastor and started a church in Twin Falls, Idaho where I went to school for the 9th - 11th grade. In 1963 we moved back to Hesston, Kansas, and I graduated from Hesston High.
In 1968 I returned to school at Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, VA. and met my wonderful wife there. We moved to Tulsa, Ok. and I attended Spartin School of Aeronautics and became a Aircraft mechanic.
After building several antique aircraft, we moved to Newton, KS. in 1973 and have been working in the aviation industry ever since. In 1982 we took our 3 children to Botswana, Africa, where I was a mission pilot flying all over southern Africa. We thank the Lord for that experience.
Now 2 of our children live in Chicago and one in Virginia, so we have to travel to see the grand kids. Grand Kids are "great".
We are looking forward to seeing everyone again. I may not remember anyone but always like visiting. One of the things I do remember is that I was thrown of my first horse while riding with Julie Wright. I spent a night in the hospital because of it.
See you soon.
Donald

I have been Executive Director of the Higher Education Alumni Council of Oklahoma (HEACO; pronounced HE-A-CO), a statewide grassroot organization of supporters of the state colleges and universities in Oklahoma. I have held this position since January 1992.
I work with the institutions' presidents, the state agency for higher education, the legislative leadership, and the governor's office to obtain and advance support for higher education - particularly in the area of increased funding. My job focuses on the areas of politics and public relations. I am serving as executive producer of a television series about higher education in Oklahoma - and I don't have a television!
Outside interests include Leadership Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women, and Rotary. I hope to work in the area of higher education for a minimum of 10 more years and plan to retire in Mountain Home.

Although I grew up here I was fortunate enough to attend military school for the final 5 years of my schooling. I spent the winter months of 1959-1964 attending Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, and my summers here on the lake with many of my childhood friends. Though I did not actually graduate from MHHS in 1964 I am generally considered an "honorary member" of the class by many.
I was the drummer for the "locally infamous" band, "The Vipers", and so maintained a high degree of visibility to my former classmates. I have held careers as a disk jockey, magazine journalist, concert promoter and professional musician. I have owned and operated a video production business and recording studio locally since 1973.

Eloped with Sonny the day after Prom our junior year. We both went to Arkansas Tech and graduated in 1967. He went to work for the Department of Defense in Texarkana that summer and, after a career that took us all over the US, Europe, and the Pacific, retired in 1995. We returned to Mountain Home on January 1, 1996, and built a home on ten acres at the back of his grandparents farm on Highway 62 East. We're still outside the city limits (It's getting closer all the time!) but inside the relatively new 62/412 bypass, not very far from Wal-Mart’s new store.
I taught in Foreman AR, Lexington KY, and Germany, and for the next 20 years spent my time at home with the kids, substitute teaching, volunteering, researching family history, and doing some secretarial work. Got my first computer, a $100 Timex-Sinclair, in 1982 and have been at the keyboard ever since.
In 1992, we found ourselves in Atlanta GA after two years in the Marshall Islands, and shortly thereafter I found the Internet. Now I build Web pages, mostly to promote Cotter. (We love its history and its beautiful location, and enjoying doing what we can to "boost" it, as the old newspapermen would say.) Since June of 2000, we've published the Trout Capital News for the city of Cotter (http://www.troutcapitalnews.com), a monthly newsletter which is distributed in hard copy in Cotter and online.
Our days are filled mostly with spending time with our 85- and 88-year-old mothers and doing volunteer work. He writes and talks (does a short show about Arkansas history with Bobby Knight at 9:30 a.m. each Monday on KTLO-FM.); I compute and self-publish books about family history and Cotter history.
I'm a breast-cancer survivor (3 1/2 years - M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston), and I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you to get that mammogram!
We're so very happy being back home, even if Mountain Home is growing just too fast! I can't wait to see all of you and then begin planning for our 50th reunion in 2014!

I was glad to hear from Julie about the reunion. Even tho I moved from MHHS to Dardanelle AR in 1964 I’m looking forward to seeing some of the many classmates I had while living in MH.

It has been so much fun reading this site! I couldn't believe somebody found that picture from the rowing club. I had no idea that thing was out in cyberspace!! I'm looking forward to the Saturday night event. Sorry Joyce & I won't be able to make the Friday night gathering. Would you believe that the class we graduated with here in Houston is having their reunion on the same weekend?! We're going to attend the one here in Houston on Friday night and go to our favorite one on Saturday. See you there! PS: The August issue of Southern Living has a couple of pages about Norfork/Mtn. Home. Monkey Market sounds interesting??
